Chandigarh Dec. 2
India skipper MS Dhoni is expected to join the team ahead of the rescheduled first Test, commencing in Adelaide from December 9.
Owing to a hand injury, Dhoni had not been named in the original squad for the first Test, earlier scheduled to be played in Brisbane from December 4. He was earlier expected to join the team for the 'second Test' in Adelaide, which was originally starting on December
What excited the cricket lovers about Virat getting a shot at the Test captaincy was MS Dhoni’s abysmal away record as skipper. Apart from the dismal numbers – India have lost 13 out of 16 away Tests under Dhoni – the Indian captain’s style too has invited a sharp criticism over the years; the experts find his captaincy too passive to win a Test match. Dhoni is generally accused of playing a waiting game even as the game is drifting away; of waiting for things to happen rather than making them happen.
With India going nowhere under Dhoni as far as away Test are concerned, it would have been a good opportunity to see what Virat could bring to the table. India will now need to wait a little more to find out if the Delhi youngster could turn around India’s plunging fortunes overseas.
