Accusing the police of booking their husbands under pressure of the local Bar Association, two women attempted self-immolation outside the office of the Commissioner of police here on Tuesday.
As they tried lighting a match, a policemen standing nearby grabbed them and prevented them from setting their clothes on fire. The women were identified as Priya Kapoor and Kanishka Kapoor of Batala Road. One of the women fainted on the spot and was later rushed to a local hospital.
A few of the family members stated that the advocate was not invited to the function on December 3.
The women alleged that the advocate had passed objectionable comments against them, after which the fight had started. Later supporters of the advocate had arrived on the spot and thrashed members of the family.
